Charles A. Aldred, 85, of Fremont, OH passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Rutherford House in Fremont. He was born July 31, 1928 in Toledo, OH to Arthur G. and Lovina H. (Bacon) Aldred. He was a 1947 graduate of Vallejo High School.
Charles served in the U.S. Coast Guard-Merchant Marines in 1945 where he was awarded the Merchant Marine Emblem, Atlantic War Zone Bar and Mediterranean-Middle East War Zone Bar. He then served in the U.S. Navy from November, 1945 to March, 1948 and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and American Theatre Ribbon.
Charles worked in Production Control at Ludlow Industries for twenty-one years, retiring in 1978. He then worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation for fifteen years and retired in 1992. Charles was a Life member of the Fremont VFW and was a volunteer for Hospice and the American Red Cross. He was also a member of the Isaac Walton League.
Charles is survived by his children, Charles A. Aldred, Jr. of Florida, Cheryl K. Aldred, Fremont, OH, Christine I. Ottney-Tea, Clyde, OH, Crystal L. Rufty, Fremont, OH, Craig L. Aldred of Arizona; nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home & Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.
Private Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
