Catherine A. Gibbs

Catherine A. Gibbs, 91, of Fremont, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Elmwood Assisted Living. Catherine was born on October 26, 1933 to Harold and Edith (Richter) Gnieser in Gibsonburg, OH. She was a 1951 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. Catherine married Burdett Gibbs on October 27, 1956 in Gibsonburg, OH and he survives. 

Catherine worked as an office manager for Dr. Ih Foo Lin in Sandusky and also for the Fremont News Messenger for seven years. She is a lifelong member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where she was the finance secretary, member of the Women’s Circle and church choir. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, playing the piano and baking pies. Catherine also enjoyed volunteering at Memorial Hospital and loved to spend time with her family.

Catherine is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Burdett Gibbs; children, Patrick Gibbs, Helena, OH, Annette (Mark Polter) Moore, Fremont, Colleen (Scott) Carmack, Fremont; son-in-law, Ken Ferstler, Fremont; grandchildren, Jessica (Brandon) Wright, Jaime (Alexios) Hadji, Heather (Ray) Reese, Melissa (David) Sito, Paton (Kristy Rich) Gibbs, Erin (Greg) Garza, Jeri (Mike) Christopher; thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Carol Ferstler and brother, John Gnieser.

Catherine’s family would like to thank the staff at Elmwood and Heartland Hospice for their loving care.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.

Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 12 p.m. 

Private burial will take place at Four Mile House Cemetery. 

Memorials can be made in her honor to American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association or Donor’s Choice.
