Carl A. Murray, 93, of Old Fort passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Elmwood Assisted Living in Green Springs, OH. He was born on June 1, 1923 in Old Fort, OH, the son of Harry R. and Christine (Knepper) Murray. He was a 1941 graduate of Old Fort High School.
Carl served in the US Army during WWII where he received the WWII Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal (Germany). He married Leona M. Collier on November 4, 1945 at Old Fort United Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on April 30, 2014.
Carl was a lifelong farmer owning and operating Murray farms in Old Fort, OH. He was an active member of Old Fort United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader and trustee. He was a member of the Win One Sunday School Class and the Gideon’s International. He was a 4-H Club adviser for the Old Fort Progressor’s, active in Old Fort/Fort Seneca Little League and Seneca County Farm Bureau. Carl was active in Seneca County Habitat For Humanity and was a founding member and past president of Northwest Ohio American Trauma Society. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and cooking. He also loved farming, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Carl is survived by his children, Norman (Nola) Murray, Green Springs, OH, Sharon (Thomas) Dugan, Alva, FL, William “Bill” (Patti) Murray, Fremont, OH; sister, Alma Tomlinson, Chesterfield, MI; brother, Ray Murray, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Melanie Speed and Rachel Chandler-Green both of Las Vegas, NV, Adam Murray, Worthington, OH, Emily Leonard, Chicago, IL, Bessie Dugan and Susan Thompson both of Fort Myers, FL, Charlotte Steinard, Lehigh Acres, FL, Aaron Murray, Bellevue, OH and Cory Murray, Baldwinsville, NY; fourteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona M. Murray; brother, Paul Murray.
Visitation: Sunday from 2 – 6 pm at Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 211 N. Broadway St, Green Springs, OH.
Service: Monday, September 26, 2016, 10:00 am at Old Fort United Methodist Church, 8245 N. Main St., Old Fort, OH, with one hour of visitation from 9 – 10:00 am at church prior to the service. Pastor Marc Quinter will officiate.
Burial: Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort, OH with military honors provided by the Seneca County Burial Detail.
Memorials: Old Fort United Methodist Church Building Fund.
