Beverly Ann (McKinley) Schulz 91, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at Bethesda Care Center. She was born August 3, 1924 in Los Angeles, CA to Clara Lenora (Burrell) and Waldo William “Mac” McKinley.
Beverly was a 1942 graduate of Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA and received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa in 1948, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. It was there she met her husband of 69 years, Delmar Dean Schulz, while on leave from flight training during WWII. They were wed in Iowa City, IA August 1, 1945. He preceded her in death, September 28, 2014.
Beverly, known by family and friends in youth as Bebe is survived by son Marc McKinley (Patti) Schulz, Fremont, OH; daughter Barbara Dean (Mark) Kraker, Wooster, OH; grandchildren Matthew McKinley (Carrie Gilroy) Schulz, Rochester, NY; Kelli Schulz, Columbus, OH; Travis Creed (Ashley Gault) Kraker, Philadelphia, PA; Tyler Dean Kraker, Wooster, OH and great granddaughter Ruby Schulz, Rochester, NY and numerous cousins throughout the country who were very close to her heart.
Bev and Del started their married life after Del returned from England as a WWII B-17 pilot in the Army Air Corps and were stationed in Colorado Springs, CO and Roswell, NM. After his discharge they returned to Iowa City and Del began a 40 year career with Moore Business Forms, Inc. taking them to Angola, IN., Fremont, OH and Chicago, IL.
While in Fremont Beverly returned to teaching 8th grade English in the Fremont City School System. She loved and remembered many of her former students and followed them through their lives after graduation.
Beverly was involved in every community she and Del called home and was an active member throughout her life in the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Alpha Chi Omega Alumni Association, the University of Iowa Alumni Association, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served and or chaired on Republican Women committees in Iowa and Ohio. She was a very loyal and active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fremont and St. John the Devine in Sun City Center, FL.
After retirement, Beverly and Del spent 18 wonderful years in Sun City Center, FL, meeting new friends again and involving themselves in service to their church and many community based organizations.
At age 80 Bev and Del decided to move back up north to be closer to their children and again settled in Fremont and reacquainted with old friends, service and social organizations and their church family. We are so glad you did!
A memorial service will be planned and announced by the family for a date this spring at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fremont because Beverly did not like the winter months. Her cremains will be interred alongside her husband in the courtyard columbarium.
