Betty M. Boyer died at Valley View Assisted Living in Fremont, Ohio, on October 13, 2024, less than a month shy of her 99th birthday. She was born in Fremont to Heinrich “Henry” and Emma (Willer) Hedrick on November 6, 1925. She graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1943, where she enjoyed Office Practice courses and A Cappella choir. She studied piano for many years and played for her class’ Baccalaureate ceremony. After graduation, she was active in the Junior Federation of Women.
During and after World War II, Betty worked at the Herbrand Corporation as secretary to Stanley Boyer, who was President and General Manager. She married his son, Charles Boyer, on February 3, 1951, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont. She had a lovely singing voice, and many were privileged to hear her hit the high notes in the St. John’s choir.
Cooking and reading were Betty’s hobbies, and she enjoyed preparing holiday feasts for her family. A source of pride was winning first place in several categories in recipe contests sponsored by the News Messenger. Betty was a member of Grace Community Church.
Surviving are her children, Christina Tapia (Jesse) of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; Nancy Boyer-Castro (Bill) of Irvine, California; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
