Bernard “Ben” J. Horn, 66, of Fremont, OH passed away at home on August 22, 2024. He was born in Fremont, OH to Eugene and Catherine (Gegorski) Horn. Ben was a 1976 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and Vanguard. He went on to serve in the US Army from 1977 to 1997 and retired as a Sargent First Class Signal Operator receiving the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal and various service and campaign awards.
Ben was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Legion and VFW. He was a bowler for several local leagues in his younger years and enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time at Spiegel Grove in its peaceful surroundings. Ben always extended a helping hand wherever needed despite appearing gruff and hermit-like. He truly loved spending time with his family and friends.
Ben is survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Richard) Keiser, Fremont, OH; nephew, Eric (Kelly) Keiser, Irwin, PA; nieces, Heather (Sean) Moir, Elmore, OH, Melissa (Henry) Dwight, Crown Point, IN, sister-in-law, Ellen (Naderer) Horn, Fremont, OH; and seven great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Horn; paternal grandparents, Alphons and Susan (Snyder) Horn; maternal grandparents, Francis and Eva (Kwiatkowski) Gegorski.
A Memorial Service will take place at a later date per Ben’s wishes with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and VFW.
Memorials can be made in Ben’s honor to the Hayes Presidential Center.
