Bernadine M. Meyer

Bernadine M. Meyer, 92, of Fremont, OH passed away at Ottawa County Riverview Healthcare Center in Oak Harbor on November 23, 2012. She was born on May 11, 1920 in Riley Township to Urban and Lucy (Wilhelm) Meyer.

Bernadine was a 1938 graduate of St. Joseph Central Catholic High School and a 1947 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, OH, training during WWII under the Cadet Nurses Corps program. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Dr. Brewer Medal for excellence in Surgery.

She worked as a registered nurse for 24 years in the office of Dr. Carl J. Wolf until his retirement. She then worked 10 years for Drs. Ervin Koons and Howard Yost until her retirement in 1982.

Bernadine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a former Eucharistic Minister, Monitor of the Confraternity of Blessed Sacrament, Marian Society, Rosary Society, Catholic Nurses Association and Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the SJCC and Mercy Hospital Alumni Associations and the Sandusky County Historical Society. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Bernadine is survived by her sister, Louise (Jimmie) Person, Pasco, WA, and special nieces and nephews who cared for her during her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Cyril Meyer; sisters, Flavia Widman, Marcella Reardon and Genevieve Thomsen.

Visitation: Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home & Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont, OH with Fr. Michael Zacharias officiating.

Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH

Memorials: Bishop Hoffman Catholic School St. Joseph High School Campus, Sandusky County Historical Society or Stein Hospice, Sandusky, OH.
