Barbara Elizabeth Garlock, 79, of Kinsman, Ohio, passed away after long decline on June 14th, 2024 at her home. She was born on August 3rd, 1944, the daughter of late Doris (Owens) and Walter Dunfee of Kinsman.
She spent her childhood in houses located in both Kinsman and Vernon, Ohio, and was a 1962 graduate of Joseph Badger High School, after which she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, following a brief time living with her aunt and uncle in a suburb of Pittsburgh.
She served a ten month term of service, during the course of which she married Donald J. Hennessy, and was honorably discharged due to pregnancy with her first child in August of 1964. She lived in a number of states with her husband, relocating as needed to follow his employment, including New York, Indiana, and Michigan, until their divorce in 1975, and they had two children together, Donald J. Hennessy Jr. (Donny) and Kelly Ann Hennessy (McDevitt). She also graduated from a Nursing Technician program for Obstetrics at Reid Hospital, in Richmond, Indiana, during this period and had plans to train to become a registered nurse.
Following the divorce, she returned to Kinsman with her children and worked as a nurse’s aide at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, in Warren, until she dated and married Lawrence Paul (Larry) Garlock, in 1980, after which they remained married for forty-one years until his death in 2022, and had one child together, Jeffrey Lawrence Garlock. During this time, she was a homemaker and managed the family's affairs until she became unable to.
Barbara enjoyed reading and travelling, but her greatest pleasure was in spending time with her family, to which she was devoted.
Barbara is survived by her three children (Donny Hennessy of Clearwater, Florida; Kelly McDevitt of Kenai, Alaska; Jeffrey Garlock of Kinsman, Ohio) as well as her two sisters (Susan Pegg of GreensFork, Indiana; Denise Bane of Richmond, Indiana), her brother (David Dunfee of Cortland, Ohio), a number of nieces and nephews, one granddaughter (Theresa McDevitt of Anchorage, Alaska), and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, her sister-in-law Pam Dunfee, and her brother-in-law Gordon Pegg.
A service will be announced and held for her and her late second husband, Larry Garlock, at a later date.
